Tips for National Defence Academy Entrance Exam (NDA)



NDA (National Defence Academy) test is conducted twice in a year for admission in Indian Army, Navy and Air Force wings. You will need to go through a number of rounds to make it into an Indian Military force. NDA entrance test comprises a written exam, multiple rounds of interviews, group discussions and a medical test.  Applicants are invited from across India to appear in the exam, so one needs to prepare really hard to be successful in the test.


Eligibility Criteria for Admission in NDA Entrance Exam

  • You must have cleared 10+2 level from a recognized school or board.  Those appearing for 10+2 exam can also apply. 
  • To get admission into Navy and Air force wings, you must have Physics and Mathemetics in 10+2 level. 
  • Your age must be more than 16 and ½ but less than 19 years at the time of appearing for the test. 
  • Only unmarried candidates can apply for the exam. 
  • You must be medically and physically fit as per the requirements specified in the application form.

Examination Pattern of NDA Entrance Exam

  • The written exam will constitute two sections - Mathematics and General Ability Test and each section is given the time limit of two and a half hours. 
  • All the questions will be objective type. Both the sections of the test will be set bilingually in National language Hindi and other language English
  • You may have to attempt questions related to the metric system of Weights and Measures. These questions are included wherever necessary in the test. 
  • You must write the answers in your own hand writing. Under no circumstances anyone else is allowed to write on anyone’s behalf. 
  • You will not be allowed to use calculator or any Mathematic table while attempting objective type papers.

Selection Procedure

Admission to next level of the test is made on the basis of results of the written exam. After clearing written exam, you will need to appear for intelligence and personality test. This test is conducted by the Services Selection Board of Candidates. Here all the candidates are put at stage one and only those who clear this test will be allowed to appear in remaining tests.
After passing stage two, you will be required to submit your original certificates along with one photocopy of each.  These certificates are:
  • Original Matriculation Pass Certificate (it is required as a prove of date of birth)
  • Original 10+2 Pass Certificate (It is required as prove of educational qualification)

Preparation Tips

  • No doubt, for such a reputed exam you are required to prepare rigorously, particularly in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Do not overlook biology as a good part of the General Ability Test will be based on it. 
  • The science questions are basically taken from the syllabus of XI standard from CBSE syllabus. 
  • Brush up your general knowledge by keeping watch over all the latest events in every sphere. You must be aware of all the latest happenings around the world.
